Maine: Graham Platner implodes

Last month, Senate Democrats held a sitdown with Maine senatorial candidate, Graham Platner, with the party's poohbahs asking, in a come-to-Jesus moment, for him to tell them if there were any more skeletons in his closet likely to leap out and maul his endorsers.

He assured them there were not.

Well, there were.

According to Politico:

A woman who dated Maine U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner says he forced her to have sex with him nearly five years ago despite her repeated objections, an allegation Platner denies.

The woman, a 41-year-old Maine resident named Jenny Racicot, detailed the alleged incident to POLITICO in three interviews over the past two weeks. POLITICO also spoke with a man Racicot dated and confided in the years after the alleged incident, and reviewed documents, including emails between Racicot and her therapist and messages between Racicot and an acquaintance whom she warned against getting involved with Platner years before he ran for office.

Which, this time, has led to Democrats yanking their endorsements.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Rep. Ro Khanna, Sens. Martin Heimlich and Ruben Gallego, all have pulled their endorsements and this after standing firmly with the bounder after the first half-dozen or so scandals, from Nazi tattoos, to trust-fund bunny life, to porno site posts, to child sex talk and possibly worse, to credible sexual assault allegations. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer urged Platner to drop out of the race.

Now there's a new victim, with a name and correlating evidence. And while Platner would just like to keep getting away with it, someone up top among the Democrats, controlling Politico, said 'no.'

Which calls to mind a certain pattern. Jennifer van Laar was thinking the same thing:

She explained how these things work:

Democrats are running scared of a DSA takeover of their party, and Platner is one of them.

If they can get rid of him on sex-scandal grounds, the way they did with Eliot Spitzer, Andrew Cuomo, Eric Swalwell, and others, they will purge their party of the seige. It's a handy thing to know that all of their members are apparently brimming with sex scandals and they keep their files on them updated and at the ready.

It's also a little hypocritical, given how many other disgusting things Platner has been accused of:

Weird that they are upset now, instead of, say, back when the Nazi tattoo were in the news.

As Scott Jennings argues: They knew, they definitely knew:

It highlights that Democrats have a lot of candidates with these kind of problems. And maybe that has something to do with their own morals, and the anti-family values stances they advocate. Their party is loaded with zero-morals people -- imagine the kinds of things they have in the file of Scott Wiener, or Ed  Buck's pal Adam Schiff. Mikie Sherrod and Abigail Spanberger would probably have interesting things. Ruben Gallego is a treasure box of potential scandals, given his choice of friends and in the pols he touts, such as Platner. I shudder to think of what they might have on Gavin Newsom and Rob Bonta, who are singed at the edges by multiple scandals and sleazy associates.

The culture promoted by the Democrats is the culture they live, and every now and then it rises to the surface to bite them when it serves Democrat party aims to get rid of them. It keeps Democrats in lockstep with their leadership, which we saw in spades with Swalwell. always playing the attack dog, likely based on how much they had on him. It's always about control.

And in the case of Platner, their once-and-former noble oyster farmer, now expected to resign soon, it's cynical as can be.
