Today in insanity ...

Welcome to another installment of “Today in Insanity,” in which we’ll take a quick look at several stories that will make you shake your head and say to yourself, “what the bleep?!”
First up, we have Sen. Eric Schmitt being queried by a female reporter with a British accent. The reporter referred to the sleek and powerful watercraft being used by Venezuelan drug runners to ferry cocaine and fentanyl to America as “fishing boats.”
Seriously. Would she call aircraft carriers “tugboats?” Would she term Hellfire missiles “bottle rockets?” B-1 bombers “gliders?”
You cannot hate the mainstream media enough folks. You just can’t.
Next up we have the specter of the Venezuelan leader himself, Nicolás Maduro, dancing to a song apparently titled “No War, Yes Peace.” This would be as if, after menacing Europe for years, Adolf Hitler was seen in public singing, “All we are saying is give peace a chance.”
As if that little number wasn’t enough kitsch, Maduro recently sang Bobby McFerrin’s 1988 hit, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.” He also declared that Christmas and New Year’s had already arrived in the erstwhile “Jewel of South America” that he has so thoroughly destroyed. Oh, and he did tell rally attendees to be “ready to smash the teeth of the North American Empire if necessary.”
Good luck with that. Don’t worry, be happy.
Gavin “Slick” Newsom, governor of California, America’s version of Venezuela, recently appeared on an episode of The Ezra Klein Show. Newsom stated, “I wanna see trans kids. I have a trans godson. There’s no governor that’s done more pro-trans legislation than I have.”
You see, Newsom, too, has a dream. He has a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all trans men are men and all trans women are women.”
He has a dream that his 33-year old trans godson, Nats Getty, who's an heir to the Getty fortune, will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged, but will judge others by their reaction to they’s preferred pronouns. And he has a dream that one day, little trans boys and trans girls will be able to join hands with other trans boys and trans girls. As sisters and brothers. Or whatever.
And finally, a woman in Canada who has waited years for surgery has become so pain-ridden and distraught she applied for the nation’s Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) program. Her request was (relatively) promptly approved.
Thousands of Canucks have died while on waiting lists for medical procedures. One question seems relevant here: “How come Canadians don’t have to wait nearly as long to be euthanized?”
‘Til next time. Try to stay sane.
