Man Charged in Murder of Comedian Reggie Carroll Linked to Katt Williams

A man charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of comedian Reggie Carroll “worked security” for superstar comic Katt Williams, according to local news reports.
Reginald “Reggie” Carroll was killed on Wednesday, Aug. 20, at a house on Burton Lane in Southaven, Mississippi.
Carroll, 52, suffered multiple gunshot wounds, the Southaven Police Department said in a news release. First responders tried to save his life, but he succumbed to his injuries, police said.
The late comedian was from Baltimore and had been touring this year with Katt Williams and Mo’Nique on the “Katt Williams: Heaven on Earth Tour.”

Carroll frequently posted pictures and video from the tour on social media. He even posted video on his YouTube page of Williams getting a street named after him in Cincinnati, Ohio this past April.
Immediately after the fatal shooting, police arrested Tranell Williams and charged him with murder.
Southaven is located right outside Memphis, Tennessee.
Local news station Fox 13 Memphis reported the shooting occurred at a house where a company called Onyxx Owll, LLC is located.
The website for the company says it is “The official Merchandise Store for Katt Williams.” The comic’s face appears on most items sold on the site.
Fox 13 sent a news crew to the house after the shooting and a found a notice posted outside saying: “14-DAY NOTICE TO QUIT FOR CRIMINAL ACTIVITY.”
The letter said the alleged criminal activity occurred on August 20, 2025 — the day of the shooting — and stated that the crime violated a lease agreement. The eviction letter was addressed to Tranell Williams and other occupants.
In a second report, three sources told the station Tranell Williams worked security on the tour for Katt Williams. While the two men have the same last name, it’s unclear if the security guard and the comedian are related.
Memphis TV station CBS 3 WREG also looked into Tranell Williams’ background and reported he works as a bodyguard for Katt Williams.
The station interviewed one of Reggie Carroll’s longtime friends in Maryland.
“He had moved down there with Katt while they was on tour,” Kemp Earl Mitchell told the outlet. Mitchell said Carroll’s loved ones want answers.
“People are asking why?” Mitchell stated. “They don’t understand, because the last time anyone talked to him, his spirit was different, he was laughing and talking. It’s one of those things you see a person and then you don’t see them the next day.”
