Free to produce? Never has been at that scale. Someone has to pay for it.
The city doesn’t cover that cost, which goes into the millions of dollars. Macy’s does it as a promotional event.

Why would I do that? I don’t always go to see fireworks in person on the 4th, but when I have gone, it’s been the Macy’s fireworks going back to before Mamdani was born (also before Andrew Cuomo was in politics and before his father was governor).
