On some level, I am tired of writing about Graham Platner. He has sucked all the energy out of the primaries leading up to midterms and he is hardly the only very problematic Democrat candidate. 

There are some truly awful candidates being put forth by the Democrats. It's really made me question my fellow Americans, honestly. As I watched Platner's fellow Mainers stand with him this weekend, cry over him, make him cards and declare they believe the Israeli flag is much worse than a Nazi star, I really felt like I was in the Twilight Zone.

Just in case you think that lesson was hyperbole, I'll include my receipts.

This Graham Platner fangirl is out here saying she’s totally fine with her guy’s Totenkopf… you know, the actual SS death’s head skull worn by the guys running Auschwitz, guarding the gas chambers, and helping murder six million Jews in the Holocaust.

I just don't understand this level of evil. Why are we making cards for a guy with a Nazi tattoo who has been actively cheating on his wife. Why are we pretending Israel (the one place a gay man wouldn't be thrown off a building in the Middle East, by the way) is an evil empire while excusing Nazis? 

I really was beginning to chalk it up to being reared in the South versus being a Yankee (sorry if that offends my Northern friends, but there are differences between us). Then I read this lovely opinion piece by Genevieve Macdonald and why she left the Platner campaign.

Genevieve risked quite a lot. She had left another job to work for Platner. The campaign was well funded by the Bernie Sanders political machine and she had a really great role. When she learned about Platner's history, however, it was too much for her. Genevieve was a lobster boat captain and was involved in local politics. She's the real deal and she refused to have Platner shoved down her throat.

Genevieve and I probably have very little in common, but we both look at Graham Platner with disgust and wonder why people keep behaving as if he is the last hope of America. He's a terrible person. If you're a Democrat and want to vote for a Democrat, choose another one on the ballot. This guy is trash.

This is the man championing the Platner agenda. He has only a few years left to witness the full consequences of his political philosophy on the country.

Bernie Sanders is what Graham Platner looks like in thirty years. Imagine how much stronger America might be today if Bernie Sanders had never gained a foothold in Vermont politics three decades ago. Since then, he has largely lived off the taxpayer’s dime, filled a generation of young minds with fantasies of 'free stuff,' and passed little more than a handful of ceremonial bills naming buildings. Oh, and while preaching about the 'evil rich', he and his wife have enriched themselves with three homes. I have no interest in subsidizing someone even lazier and of worse character than Bernie. I don’t want to hand him a national platform to mainstream toxic ideology and antisemitism. Our children and grandchildren deserve far better.
