With Republicans Like Trey Gowdy, Who Needs Democrats
Like millions of my fellow Americans, I own guns. They stay in my bedroom, where -- to date -- the worst damage they've ever inflicted on anything was a) my budget and b) some paper silhouettes at the range.
Yet every time there's a mass shooting, Democrats crawl out of the woodwork to tell me my guns are the problem and that I must give them up in order to 'save one life.'
I will not. Not now, not ever, give up my guns to the state. I'm too learned in history and too aware of not only the state of the modern Democratic Party but the world in general to be that foolish. Yet Democrats insist the 'solution' to this problem is more gun laws.
Because Republicans, by and large, oppose the gutting of the Second Amendment, they're blamed for acts of violence like yesterday's horrific shooting in Minneapolis. I say 'by and large' because there are apparently some Republicans who want to have a 'discussion' about gun control.
Like Trey Gowdy.

🚨 BREAKING: TREY GOWDY says we need to have a conversation about more gun control, especially for "young white males."
"Its always a young white male, almost always."

He's only right that the shooter was a 'White male' who was brainwashed by the Democratic Party's pro-trans agenda and 'affirming' rhetoric.
Beyond that, not so much. Between 2015 and 2025, 'trans' individuals have the highest rate of mass shootings, beating out all other demographic groups. White men fall behind Black and Asian men:

But that's beside the point.
We have a Second Amendment that says 'shall not be infringed' without consideration for the race or gender of the individual. Gowdy, a former prosecutor, is aware of this.
On top of that, Minnesota has some of the nation's toughest gun laws, including universal background checks, red flag laws, mandates on safe gun storage, a ban on bump stocks, and gun-free school zones. Robert (Robin) Westman chose not only to ignore the gun-free school zone laws, he bragged about exploiting them to maximize his victim count.
Given the nature of the alleged Minneapolis shooter's manifesto, it's clear he was mentally unwell for a while. Where were those red flag laws? Why weren't they invoked to stop Westman from legally purchasing the guns used?
Well, part of that is because the Democratic Party has little interest in actually enforcing laws, especially against preferred demographic groups. It's why in places like New York City, career criminals with lengthy rap sheets are cut loose from custody time and again on the basis of their race. Ramon Rivera had eight prior arrests in the Big Apple and criminal records in several states. He was released from Rikers and proceeded to steal a $1,500 bowl the same day; he was arrested and released again on 'non-monetary' conditions. Rivera then stabbed three innocent people to death. Prosecutor Dafna Yoran made a point to try and throw the book at Daniel Penny for defending his fellow straphangers from a violent subway rider (who also had a lengthy criminal record) while at the same time reducing the sentence of a Black man who stabbed an Asian professor to death at an ATM.
So it's no surprise they'd brush aside red flag laws when the person in question is transgender. And why they turn around and insist women like me disarm ourselves in the name of 'safety'
The other part of it is I've come to realize (and you should too) that Democrats know their gun control proposals won't work. Democrats are evil, power-hungry, and corrupt, but they're not so stupid that they miss the repeated failures of their gun control laws. They don't intend for them to work, of course, because the purpose is to strip law-abiding Americans of their Constitutional rights so we submit to their political will.
But I expect better from Republicans. And -- at least on the issue of guns -- Republicans haven't disappointed me as much as they have on other issues. Any Republican who seeks to blame Americans and curtail our rights should be persona non grata in politics for the rest of his days.
Yet Trey Gowdy, who left Congress in 2019, decided to throw his hat in with the Leftist tyrants who seek to oppress the rest of us. Why? Does he hope to resurrect his political career? Does he hope Democrats and their media allies will give him more airtime? Does he genuinely believe stripping White men of their Constitutional rights will solve this problem?
I don't have answers to those questions. But I do know this. We Americans have Second Amendment rights that are not contingent on the actions of a mentally ill man who was brainwashed and goaded by the Democratic Party into targeting a Catholic school in Minnesota.
Trey Gowdy knows it, too.
