ICE to require agents to wear body cameras at vehicle stops: Tom Homan

“They exonerate more law enforcement than they convict, and I want officers to wear body cameras."

In the wake of shootings that have involved Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers during traffic stops, the agency will now require that ICE officers record traffic stops with at least one body camera, according to Border Czar Tom Homan.

“They exonerate more law enforcement than they convict, and I want officers to wear body cameras because I want the American people to see what the officers saw when they took that action,” Homan said on "Fox and Friends."

The comments from Homan come after there were two people shot by ICE agents within one week of each other during traffic stops in Texas as well as Maine. In both instances, there was no body-camera footage that was recorded. In another interview with "Face the Nation," Homan said that the main reason that there were not cameras is because they were held up by a partial government shutdown as Democrats were working to prevent funds from going to ICE and Border Patrol.

“The cameras have been purchased right now,” Homan said. “They’re training the trainer in deploying the cameras nationwide.”

Last week, in the wake of the shootings, Homan said that traffic stops would be suspended temporarily to go through training. Then within the next day, President Donald Trump ordered ICE to resume traffic stops to arrest illegal immigrants.

“We CANNOT give up one of I.C.E.’s most important and effective Crime Fighting tools, THE TRAFFIC STOP!” Trump wrote at the time. “Once we do, we are playing right into the criminals’ hands. The Radical Left Dumocrats would like to see this done, but it won’t happen on my watch. I.C.E., be judicious, fair and smart, and go back and do your very important job. Keep those Crime Stat Records coming! Remember, you are loved and respected in America. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
