HOT AIR: Chuck Schumer accused of ripping fart on Senate floor

The senator is better at passing wind than passing laws.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer appeared to pass gas while speaking on the Senate floor Tuesday, with the moment airing live on C-SPAN before quickly spreading across social media.

Schumer had begun speaking about Iran and the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) when an audible noise that many online users speculated could be a fart was heard during his remarks.

“Now on Iran and the NDAA,” Schumer said before the audible sound was made.

“When all the Trump administration can say about his disastrous war with Iran is that Vietnam was worse. A point Trump made yesterday, he reveals the scale of his failure,” Schumer went on to say. “This is what Donald Trump said. The only thing he can say is Vietnam was worse. Oh my God! A war that killed close to 50,000 Americans, a war that lasted almost a decade, a war that ripped America apart.”

The clip quickly circulated on social media, including being shared by the Republican National Committee’s official X account.

The incident also prompted comparisons to a 2019 television interview involving former California Representative Eric Swalwell, during which an even louder fart-like sound was made while appearing on MSNBC’s “Hardball with Christ Matthews.” At the time, the show played it off as being the sound of a coffee mug being scraped across a studio desk.
