Graham Platner mocked teen's suicide attempt in Reddit post

“Someone clearly isn’t trying hard enough.”

A series of Reddit posts from Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner includes comments about a teenage suicide attempt, military violence, and explicit personal remarks spanning more than a decade.

In a May 2012 Reddit thread, a photo showed a teenage girl hanging from an upper-story window while a young man appeared to be holding her arms in an attempt to pull her back inside. The caption read, “A girl at my old highschool [sic] tried jumping from a window because her cousin died the day before. These students saved her. I have hope.”

An account using the name P-Hustle, previously identified as Platner’s username, replied: “Someone clearly isn’t trying hard enough.”

In a 2019 Reddit thread discussing video footage of a US service member under attack in Afghanistan, Platner wrote, “Dumb motherf–ker didn’t deserve to live. At least his stupidity and fat a– wheezing are available for all future infantrymen to witness and hold in contempt,” referring to a Purple Heart recipient, according to the New York Post.

In a 2014 post on a subreddit discussing combat footage, Platner commented on a video showing Hamas militants firing on Israeli soldiers and attempting a kidnapping. He wrote, “Looks like an all around well executed and successful small unit raid to me.” In 2021, in response to a user discussing adult performers being thanked for their work in the same way as military veterans, Platner wrote, “Thank you for your cervix.”

A 2017 Reddit post attributed to Platner included strong language in response to a discussion about porta-potties. “I still have to jerk off every time I sit in a portashi–er….that blue water smell conditioned me,” he wrote.

Separate from the Reddit posts, Platner has previously acknowledged a SS Totenkopf tattoo and said he did not understand its association with Nazi Germany’s paramilitary units until 2025 during his Senate campaign.

An ex-girlfriend has alleged he was aware of the meaning earlier and said he described the tattoo as a reminder that “the US was the evil bad guy overseas.” She also alleged incidents of physical behavior during their relationship, including grabbing and arm-twisting. Platner has previously denied those allegations.
