One Biden Hand-Signed Pardon Draws Attention Amid Autopen Scandal

Former President Joe Biden issued numerous autopen pardons that are the subject of an ongoing congressional and federal government investigation. However, one of his hand-signed pardons is among the most controversial.
Biden pardoned over 1,500 convicts on the largest day of clemency, granted clemency to January 6 Committee members and former administration officials, such as Dr. Anthony Fauci, Gen. Mark Milley, and his family members.
However, he personally signed his son Hunter Biden’s pardon, suggesting that it meant something to him, raising questions about whether he was aware of his other autopen pardons. Biden had promised Americans that he would not interfere in the justice process and would not pardon Hunter if he were found guilty.
Fifty-one intelligence chiefs had signed a document claiming that Hunter’s “Laptop from Hell” story, which played a crucial role in his conviction, bore the hallmarks of a Russian disinformation campaign.
“From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted,” he said, undermining the credibility of his DoJ that spent years prosecuting Trump.
“I hope Americans will understand why a father and a president would come to this decision,” he justified the decision.
However, insiders had reportedly known for months that Hunter’s pardon was not off the table but were advised to stick to the official script. Biden personally signing that pardon, which he seemingly had contemplated for months, makes the autopen scandal even more concerning.
Meanwhile, Trump has ordered an investigation into Biden’s autopen pardon to determine if the former president was aware or if some powerful, shadowy White House officials had usurped the president’s power.
“In recent months, it has become increasingly apparent that former President Biden’s aides abused the power of Presidential signatures through the use of an autopen to conceal Biden’s cognitive decline and assert Article II authority,” Trump wrote.
President Trump characterized the autopen scandal as one of the “most dangerous and concerning” in the country’s history.
“The American public was purposefully shielded from discovering who wielded the executive power, all while Biden’s signature was deployed across thousands of documents to effect radical policy shifts.”
Those autopen executive orders and pardons were mainly aimed at “Trump-proofing” the federal government, suggesting that people who heavily wielded the autopen were likely to remain active in American politics long after Biden had exited the stage.
According to President Trump, Biden’s display of cognitive decline was worse behind closed doors than what many Americans witnessed. He explained how Biden’s advisors restricted news, his public appearances, and scripted his conversations to conceal his cognitive decline.
The Wall Street Journal reported that some of Biden’s top aides often stepped in for him and tightly controlled access to the president, even for fellow Democratic lawmakers.
“To do so, Biden’s advisors during his years in office severely restricted his news conferences and media appearances, and they scripted his conversations with lawmakers, government officials, and donors, all to cover up his inability to discharge his duties,” Trump added.
Jake Tapper’s book claimed that some White House staffers were plotting to run the country on behalf of cognitively-challenged Biden if he was re-elected.
