❓ WHAT HAPPENED: Private sector payrolls in the United States grew by almost 100,000 in June, finishing off the strongest three-month hiring period of the last year.📺 DETAIL: According to new data on Wednesday from Automatic Data Processing (ADP), a global HR and payroll company, private sector payrolls increased by 98,000 in June. While these numbers fell short of the projected approximately 120,000, this marks the best three-month period for hiring in over a year. ADP noted widespread hiring across nearly all sectors. Small businesses (employers with fewer than 50 workers) were the primary contributors, adding 53,000 jobs in total. Of these, employers with fewer than 20 employees added 38,000 jobs, while businesses with 20 to 49 employees added 15,000 jobs. Mid-sized businesses (employers with 50 to 499 employees) added a combined total of 29,000 jobs, while larger companies contributed 25,000 jobs.💬 KEY QUOTE: “The pace of hiring is telling a story of both supply and demand. We know it’s taking people longer to find work, but there also are signs of labor supply constraints in certain industries,” said ADP Chief Economist Dr. Nela Richardson.🎯 IMPACT: The data indicates a strengthening labor market. This reinforces a pre-existing trend of broad-based, small business-led job growth. In early June, it was reported that job growth in the United States hit a 16-month high. Data from ADP revealed that 122,000 private sector jobs were added in May, surpassing the projected 120,000. This marked the largest monthly gain since the beginning of last year. Hiring throughout May was broad-based and was primarily led by small businesses. Trade and Transportation, Education and Health Services, and Professional and Business Services sectors added the most jobs, according to the report. “The labor market continues to show sustained momentum going into the summer hiring season,” said the ADP’s Dr. Nela Richardson at the time.
