According to a reliable source cited by Cleveland radio host Andy Baskin, LeBron’s camp was prepared to reveal his next destination as early as last week. That plan changed after NBA Commissioner Adam Silver publicly urged him to pick up the pace.

“Here’s what I was told yesterday by a reliable source. Last week, LeBron’s crew was probably ready to make an announcement. ‘Irritated’ was the word I was told, by the commissioner pushing them,” Baskin told 92.3 The Fan. “So they decided to hold back.”

Silver appeared on CNBC last week and, with a wink and a nod, explained the logistical headache LeBron’s indecision was causing the league.

“I need him to make a decision,” Silver said, noting that networks and teams were waiting on where the 41-year-old superstar would land before locking in Opening Night and Christmas Day matchups.

While many viewed the comments as a compliment — acknowledging LeBron’s massive draw even at his age — those close to James reportedly saw it differently. The public nudge apparently came across as pressure, prompting his inner circle to pump the brakes on an announcement that was nearly ready.

More like James and his camp were looking for a reason to draw out the drama as the attention-seekers they are. Maybe he’s hoping for another primetime “Decision” show.

Since then, rumors have linked him to the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, and others. Yet fans and the league are still waiting for “The Decision 5.0.”

At this stage of his legendary career, the move feels like typical LeBron — a calculated flex of control. Whether the delay was LeBron’s call alone or a group decision by his team, it underscores how much influence he still wields.

The league literally cannot finalize major schedule pieces without knowing his destination.
