Veteran Democrat strategist James Carville is warning that socialist insurgents are endangering his party’s chances after a recent wave of far-left primary victories.

Carville, the former Bill Clinton strategist known as “The Ragin’ Cajun,” unloaded on “left-wing idiots” Friday during a “Presidential History Lesson” appearance for Politicon’s YouTube channel.

His comments came after socialist Democrat candidates scored primary wins in New York, Colorado, and Washington, D.C.

The surge has been triggering growing concern among establishment Democrats.

“These people are so f**king stupid, I don’t know what to say about it,” Carville said.

He said the far-left candidates are more focused on attacking Democrats than defeating Republicans.

“So now we have this idea that these insurgent Democrats — and what is their solution?” Carville said.

“Is their solution to beat Republicans, to run against Republicans? No!”

“Their solution is to beat Democrats like they’re part of the problem,” he added.

Carville Blames Sanders for Trump Victory

Carville has become increasingly blunt in his public criticism of the Democratic Party’s left wing.

Though his delivery is often bombastic, Carville remains one of the party’s most recognizable strategists.

He helped Clinton “triangulate” in 1992, appealing to independents and voters who had shifted toward Republicans during the Reagan era.

That strategy helped brand Clinton as a “New Democrat” and win the White House.

Carville’s later efforts were less successful.

He advised then-Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) during his failed 2004 campaign against President George W. Bush.

He also advised Hillary Clinton during her failed 2016 campaign against President Donald Trump.

On Friday, Carville appeared to argue that Democrats are again ignoring the moderate strategy that helped Clinton win.

He singled out Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), calling him an “insurgent” figure and blaming him for what Carville described as the “most catastrophic event of this century,” referring to Trump’s 2016 victory.

“How did Trump win?” Carville said.

“I’ll tell you how, because goddamn Bernie Sanders is the reason that Donald Trump is president.

“You hear me? Listen to me.”

Carville Warns Left Could Cost Democrats

Carville argued that far-left candidates could damage Democrats again in this year’s midterms.

He warned that “left-wing idiots” are jeopardizing the party’s chances of taking control of the House or Senate.

His remarks echo Republican criticism of socialist candidates who have won Democratic primaries in major races.

Carville also rejected the idea that the Democratic Party itself is responsible for voters turning toward the extreme left.

Instead, he blasted democratic socialists and warned voters not to “fall for the allure of false prophets.”

He specifically criticized Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed for saying the progressive movement does not need “party elites” to create change.

Carville said the socialist movement is “not both parties’ fault.”

“One party expanded health insurance, alright?” Carville said.

“Another party destroyed it.

“One party balanced the budget and created economic prosperity.

“The other party destroyed it.

“One party brought about a deal with Iran’s nuclear program.

“Another party destroyed it.”

“I Am Not a Leftist”

Carville’s comments reflect a growing split inside the Democratic Party between old-school liberals and the rising socialist wing.

That divide has intensified after New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani and other socialist-backed candidates gained momentum.

Mamdani has become one of the most visible faces of the new far-left surge.

Carville made clear that he still considers himself a liberal but rejects the leftist approach.

“I am a proud liberal,” Carville said.

“I am not a leftist. I don’t believe you ought to break the thing up.

“I think the role of government is to help people, to be a partner with people, to help them get educated, to help them have retirement security.”

The former Clinton strategist’s warning is blunt.

Carville believes Democrats risk repeating the same mistake he says helped elect Trump in 2016: allowing socialist insurgents to drag the party away from the voters it needs to win.

His message to Democrats is that the party’s biggest threat may not only be Republicans.

It may also be the left-wing candidates defeating Democrats from within.
