Trump won’t rule out pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell

President Donald Trump on Monday declined to rule out the possibility of pardoning convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, the longtime associate of the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, after the U.S. Supreme Court announced it would not hear her appeal. During a White House press conference, CNN’s Kaitlin Collins asked Trump if he would consider a pardon, noting that “her only chance of getting out of prison is a pardon.”

“Well, I’ll take a look at it. I’ll speak to — I will speak to the DOJ. I wouldn’t consider it or not consider it,” Trump said. “I don’t know anything about it. So, but I’ll see. I will speak to the DOJ.”

Collins continued, “Why would she be a candidate for clemency, sir?”

Trump replied, “I don’t know. I may not have to speak to the DOJ. I’ll look at it. I have a lot of people who have asked me for pardons. I call him — Puffy Daddy has asked me for a pardon.”

“But she was convicted of child sex trafficking,” Collins noted.

“Yeah, I mean,” Trump responded, “I’m going to have to take a look at it. I have to ask [the] DOJ. I didn’t know they rejected it. I didn’t know she was even asking for it, frankly.”

Start your day with fact-based news. Maxwell’s transfer to minimum-security camp

Maxwell, who was convicted in 2021 of recruiting and grooming minors for Epstein, is serving a 20-year sentence at a minimum-security prison camp in Texas. Her transfer earlier this year was approved by the Department of Justice (DOJ) following an interview with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.

Trump’s remarks come amid renewed public pressure for the DOJ to release additional documents from the Epstein Files, which detail connections between Epstein and a range of public figures.
