After the attempted decapitation of an Irish man by an African migrant in the streets of Belfast, the local men are taking back their country in a very raw and real way.

A Sudanese man accused of attempting to behead a man on a Belfast street used a loophole in the asylum system to gain entry to the UK.

A 30-year-old man was charged with attempted murder after a male in his 40s suffered “significant injuries” to his face, neck and back on Monday night, the Police Service of Northern Ireland [PSNI] said.
Details of the attack, which took place on Kinnaird Avenue in the north of the city, were released after graphic footage of the stabbing was shared widely online.

On Tuesday, Jon Boutcher, the force’s chief constable, said the suspect was believed to have travelled from Sudan to Paris and then to Dublin, before taking a bus to Belfast in February 2023. There, he claimed asylum and was given leave to remain in the UK in September 2023.

The so-called “Irish route” involves migrants flying to Dublin from Europe, sometimes on false papers, before travelling unchecked to Northern Ireland by land to claim asylum. The UK and Ireland share a common travel agreement that allows free movement across the border without routine immigration checks.
