Watch: Jasmine Crockett's World Cup Race-Baiting Backfires When Dem Hearing Witness Won't Play Along

The House Oversight Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE) held a hearing on "Rewriting American History: Examining the Smithsonian’s Efforts to Reshape the Past," which was certainly packed with action, as my RedState colleague Sister Toldjah reported earlier. She detailed how Republican Rep. Brandon Gill (TX-26) grilled the director of the museum, Dr. Anthea Hartig, and how it did not go well for her.

But that wasn't the only moment where the leftist position went crashing on the rocks. 

There was a truly strange moment when Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) spoke about why she felt people had been enjoying the World Cup. 

Her bizarre take: "The World Cup that captured the imaginations of the entire world when they saw all these people of color that was playing for all these teams." 

Is she kidding? The World Cup captured people for a variety of reasons. The soccer fans, those rooting for their teams, those interested in seeing teams from all over the world. Perhaps most importantly, it captured Americans who enjoyed watching how much the fans who were visiting from other countries were enjoying their visit to America. It reminded us again about all the great things in this country. Funny how she didn't note that point about the reason people have been enjoying the World Cup. 

I don't think I've heard one person talking about race as a reason why they enjoyed the tournament. Maybe it seems like that if that's the only lens through which you view anything.

Then she had an even more bizarre take on the final game between Argentina and Spain. 

“If you recall, the last two teams, it was Argentina and Spain, and it seemed like the vast majority of the world was rooting for Argentina- or actually against Argentina, right?” she said, not even being clear about what she was saying. "And why was that?" 

Crockett asked Prof. David Blight, one of the Democrat witnesses, why that might be. As shown in the above video clip, he answered logically, maybe because "Spain had the best team. Maybe that's why they were rooting for them." Even he didn't go wherever she was trying to go. 

Crockett then said, “There's also a racist history." 

What is she even talking about here? Some thought she was saying it was racist to root for Argentina. Others thought she meant people were rooting against Argentina because she was saying they had a racist history. She also managed to tick off some folks on X who I think were from Argentina with that comment. 

Either way, here's another shocker: I don't think anyone was rooting for either of the teams because of race. 

No, the World Cup wasn't about racism. It was about coming together in the spirit of sport. Sometimes that was tested by bad calls. But on the whole, it was a huge success, and largely changed the perception that some had of the U.S. as a result of the ugly liberal media portrayal of the country. Americans, in turn, got to see the fun side of a lot of the guests: from how the Scottish Tartan Army are brilliant singers and can drink anyone under the table to the Norwegians who taught us all how to row.

Crockett is likely to unintentionally leave us with more fun before she heads out in January.
