Priceless: Sen. Kennedy Nails Schumer in Classic Style on the Reason for His Shutdown

We're in the middle of the Schumer Shutdown.

Democrats are trying to spin their way out of it, but this is all on them.

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) nailed exactly why Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) was doing this during an appearance on "Fox & Friends" on Wednesday, in that inimitable way that Kennedy has. "His relationship with the truth is very casual," Kennedy said.

"He’s nervous as a pregnant nun about losing his reelection to the socialist wing of his party, led by Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez, which is in control," Kennedy said. Oh, my, now that's a line - and right on point.

Kennedy hit on Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) being the "leader" in the past. That's a good strategy to divide and conquer the Democrats.

Kennedy nails it. Schumer got yelled at by the left in March when he went along with the Republicans the last time this question came up. He knows that AOC is waiting in the wings, chomping at the bit for higher office and likely his seat. He's desperate to hold onto the left. But in the process, he's losing the middle with moves like he's making now with his shutdown.

As Kennedy acknowledged, we will eventually come out of the Schumer Shutdown, explaining how the New Yorker has been around since year one.

"He’s been around a long time. His first car was a chariot," Kennedy said.

"Washington is all he’s ever known his entire life. He knows he’s on shaky ground here in terms of policy."

Kennedy said he thought Schumer would persuade enough Democrats to go along with the Republicans on a vote, although Chuck himself might not vote for it.

"He’ll say, ‘I can't vote with you. I’ve got to appear to be tough. I may even have to criticize you, but wink, wink, nod, nod. I'm trying to make the loon wing of the party love me,’" Kennedy said.
"But he's got to be careful with that, because he doesn't want it to look like a mutiny, because then he looks even weaker."

He said something similar on Monday, noting Schumer would ultimately have to give up this game. He went on to explain that Democrats wanted to bring back the waste that Republicans got rid of with the One Big Beautiful Bill.

Kennedy is right - the far left wing isn't going to love Schumer anyway, so this is a fruitless exercise on his part to try to appease them.

But this is why the Democrats are so lost on this issue, and in general, they're held in the grip of their left wing, which makes no sense.
