Welcome News: Another Rescission Package Is Coming to Codify Spending Cuts on a Key Conservative Issue

The Trump team has had a long list of achievements in just their first six months.
One of the most important things has been the change in thinking about spending, evaluating all aspects of the government with DOGE. They've made critical cuts and streamlined the departments.

We saw the first rescissions bill with some of those cuts pass last week, clawing back more than $9 billion for the American people. That dealt with something folks on the right have wanted to cut for some time: the funding of things like NPR and PBS, as well as USAID cuts.
But that was only the start. Office of Management and Budget head Russ Vought had signaled there would be more such bills.

Vought indicated on July 17 that another package would be coming soon. Vought would not comment on what was being covered in the next package.
Now there's a new report that confirms it's coming. The report indicates it will include Department of Education cuts, as well as non-education cuts, according to The Daily Signal.
White House Deputy Chief of Staff James Blair told reporters on Friday.
"We’ve got a number of items we’re looking at also, obviously talking to the senators too,” Blair said. “They’re going through the appropriations process. We don’t know what’s important to them, but you know, you’ll obviously see that very soon.”

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) affirmed that talks were well underway. It's not clear yet exactly how much money is involved in this second package.
Conservatives have long wanted to get rid of the Department of Education. President Trump supported that goal with an executive order in March that authorized the Secretary of Education, Linda McMahon, to dismantle the department. They've since let go of 1300 employees.
It's a completely useless department that doesn't educate anyone. It just supports a bloated government. Many on X noted that education has worsened since the department was created.
The members of Congress who wanted cuts were pretty happy.
“Every dollar clawed back is YOUR money protected from Washington’s waste,” the Freedom Caucus posted on the social media platform X in response to The Daily Signal’s report. “The Freedom Caucus is ready to back additional rescissions and keep fighting to cut reckless spending.”
The Department of Education has existed since 1980.
The results? Costs of education and salaries of career bureaucrats have gone through the roof, meanwhile test scores of students have plummeted.
Time to cut the waste, fraud, and abuse at the Department of Education. https://t.co/UU7XrklK5i
