Watch: Brad Lander and Kathy Hochul Remarks After His Release Are Even More Off the Rails

redstate.com

On Tuesday, we reported how NYC Comptroller and mayoral candidate Brad Lander was arrested when he held onto a person that federal agents were trying to take into custody outside of the immigration court in New York City. Homeland Security said he was arrested for assault and impeding a federal officer.

He was released after a few hours and came out with New York Governor Kathy Hochul to make a statement.

I just had to share with you his spin because it's so ridiculous.

Lander said he "just engaged in that tradition of accompaniment, of trying to bear witness, of trying to walk peacefully with someone, of trying to make sure the rules were followed."

Bull cookies, we saw the videos. What is he even talking about, a "tradition of accompaniment"? If someone allegedly interferes in an arrest, that's not "making sure that the rules are followed."

Someone should have told Brad that he should stop talking. Listen as he describes what he did.

He admits he just tried to walk "Edgardo" out of the building, and "all I tried to do was just hold Edgardo's arm." Um, yeah, that was the problem.

But then Gov. Kathy Hochul spoke. She claimed there were "no charges."

Then she explained just how much the Democrats were going to go over the slide on this issue.

“We're also concerned about those that are walking out of this courthouse taken away from their families. They don’t have the attention. They don't have the lawyers. And that's why the State of New York is providing $50 million to cover legal services for people who are finding themselves in this situation."

First, the charges. I get why the feds might not pursue charges, thinking that just feeds into the Democratic martyr narrative. However, they also should ensure that the law is enforced and their agents are supported. I wouldn't assume the charges won't be filed in the future.

But then, $50 million to pay for legal services for people ICE is trying to detain? And they wonder why people are fleeing New York?

Now, Lander is saying he will continue to "accompany" people. He urged other people to do it as well. He even advertised the group he was working with during an interview on MSNBC.

Therein lies the problem of letting people take an inch; Democrats will try to take a mile.
