Didn't They Almost Have It All?

Now that we’ve marked the sixth month of President Donald Trump’s second term, and we’re needing to pull out our calculators just to keep track of the number of major wins he and his team have already delivered, it’s easy for conservatives to feel satisfied, content that the United States of America is being forcefully pushed back to normalcy and the greatness it deserves after eight years of Obama and four even worse ones under Joe Biden.

But it didn’t have to be this way—and it almost wasn’t. In fact, I would argue that we came as close as we ever have since at least the Civil War to losing this country, or at least watching it transform into something our Founders never intended it to be.

Two miracles prevented that from happening: 1) One of the most incredible comebacks in political history, courtesy of Donald Trump, and 2) The almost unfathomable hubris of the Democrats that allowed that to happen.

You see, progressives had vanquished their enemy. I remember the awful heartache that hit when I woke up on November 7, 2020, and felt gut-punched on hearing the news that Joe Biden had somehow defeated the incumbent, Donald Trump, for the presidency when just hours earlier it looked like Trump had locked in his second term.

Following that dark moment, they had it all—they controlled the Oval Office, the House, the Senate, the extremist academics, the fawning media, Hollywood (and their execrable late-night "comedy shows"), the popular sentiment, almost everything. They had their almost mythical (to them) former leader in Barack Obama, and they had vanquished the lion, Trump, neutering him with endless lawfare campaigns and impeachments and over-the-top Jan. 6 claims to the point where it seemed like he could never, ever get off the mat. Sure, they had an uninspiring figurehead in Joe Biden, but they didn’t care; they could control him and continue their extremist onslaught into the very soul of our country.

They had won. Unequivocally. And they might have stayed in power for decades, if they’d played their cards right. If I said right now that I predicted we’d be where we are at this junction—witnessing an almost unbelievable restoration of American values, American power and American greatness—I’d be lying through my teeth. Because I thought we were toast, and for four long years I was right.

But they blew it. They absolutely freaking blew it.

The Democrats blew it so badly it will take years to recover, if they ever can. How and why?

The why is that they believed their own press. They mistook glowing reviews of their wacky policies by the likes of CNN, the Washington Post, the New York Times and MSNBC as the mood of the people. What they didn’t realize is that those publications have long lost any meaning for those that don’t vacation in Nantucket, dine in DC and NYC with each other over and over again, and care little about the millions upon millions of people in the “flyover states.”

They fell so in love with themselves that they tripled down on far-left policy after far-left policy, from cheering on men smacking around females in women’s sports to mutilating children in the name of gender ideology to punishing those who rely on the basic building block of modern life—energy. Reliable, affordable energy.

They lauded criminals and demonized law enforcement as residents in city after city watched their neighborhoods descend into homeless encampments and random crime. They prioritized illegal aliens over the American people, funneling billions after untold billions of our hard-earned taxpayer dollars to ensure that non-citizens were taken care of even as our own citizens were ignored. They went all-in on racist DEI policies that basically said the measure of a man is not his competence, but the color of his skin. A more anti-American sentiment has never been so widely popularized.

Joe Biden ran as a sort of quasi-centrist, a man with no real moral principles or vision but who could be trusted to “do the right thing.” Within seconds of being elected, however, the mentally declining former vice president and senator who had been in government virtually his entire adult life suddenly turned into an extremist progressive revolutionary who tried to turn the country upside down on its head with his radical gender wars, his war on fuel, and his “let everyone with a pulse in” border policies.

It was a shocking transformation, and the media and the left loved it. The Democrats' takeaway? “This is the way forward.”

And now they find themselves out of power in the House, the Senate, the Oval Office and the court of public opinion, all arenas they so recently had a seemingly insurmountable chokehold on. The press and “elite” academia still camp out on the leftist fringe, however, and while progress has been made there, they’re still mostly holding onto their Marxist fantasies.

The point? They had us down and out. There was very little light at the end of the tunnel. Donald Trump was absolutely relentless in refusing to give up, and his campaign and his message were ones for the ages, but I don’t know if things would have unfolded the way they did if the Democrats hadn’t miscalculated so incredibly badly.

November 7, 2020, was a dark day for many of us, followed by many more under the historically bad rule of Joe Biden. What I couldn’t imagine then is that in the present day, I would be saying, “Thank you, Democrats, for being so extreme! In a way, you saved our country.”

The fight is not over, however. They will make adjustments, they will continue to fight dirty, and they will always have the media on their side. We must continue to battle in ’26, ’28, and beyond.

They really did almost have it all.
