- Ty Sage was mistakenly released from jail despite having been charged with murder
- Police said Sage was mistakenly allowed to post bail
- Sage was re-arrested days later without incident
An Oregon man accused of murder was re-arrested after he was mistakenly released from jail.
Ty Sage had been behind bars after he was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Lowgunn Ivey, 15, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office said.
ABC News reported, citing court records, that Ivey was killed in December 2021. The outlet also reported that Sage pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and first-degree robbery.
The sheriff's office said Sage was indicted on the murder charge in May 2025 and had a bail hearing on Sept. 17.
ABC reported that Sage had received a release order indicating that his bail had been set at $5,000. But Multnomah County Sheriff Nicole Morrissey O'Donnell said her office made a mistake and that Sage should not have been able to post bail.
“Ty Sage should never have been able to post bail,” the sheriff said. “To the family of Lowgunn Ivey, the young man killed, I want to acknowledge the fear and trauma that this mistaken release has caused.”
The sheriff's office said a preliminary review suggested that it misinterpreted a court order. The incident is still under investigation.

Sage was released on Sept. 22 after posting bail, the sheriff's office said.
"Although MCSO employees acted in good faith and sought clarification with the court, Sage was still allowed to post bail — that should not have happened," the office said in a statement.
Sage was arrested again without any use of force at a gas station in Florence, Ore., the sheriff's office said.
