Law enforcement in Traverse City, Michigan, is investigating a stabbing attack that occurred Saturday afternoon at a local Walmart.

Law enforcement in Traverse City, Michigan, is investigating a stabbing attack that occurred Saturday afternoon at a local Walmart with at least 11 victims. According to Michigan State Police, the suspect has been taken into custody. 

“Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a multiple stabbing incident at the Wal-Mart in Traverse City. The suspect is in custody, details are limited at this time,” Michigan State Police posted on X. “Please avoid the area as the investigation is on-going.”

The incident reportedly unfolded on Saturday afternoon around 5 pm, prompting a response from police and emergency personnel after receiving calls about a stabbing. Grand Traverse 911 issued an advisory, stating, “Please avoid the area of Walmart or other businesses at Crossing Circle. First responders are on scene. There is no danger to the public at this time.”

Munson Healthcare confirmed on social media that 11 people were being treated at the largest hospital in the region. All individuals were stabbing victims. Their conditions were not immediately revealed.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said her office was in communication with law enforcement regarding the "horrible news." FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino also stated the bureau was responding to “provide any necessary support.”

Traverse City is located roughly 255 miles northwest of Detroit. According to the Associated Press, a Walmart corporate spokesperson confirmed that the company was “working with police and defer questions to them right now.”
