Hochul remains hopeful Tisch will remain NYPD commissioner

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Saturday said she remains confident Jessica Tisch will stay on as NYPD commissioner under NYC Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.

“I really don’t want to speak for her, but I wouldn’t be standing here [saying] I think she’ll be the next commissioner if I didn’t think so,” Hochul told reporters at the annual SOMOS political retreat in Puerto Rico when asked whether she’s encouraging Tisch to work for the socialist Mamdani.

Mamdani on Wednesday doubled down on a campaign pledge to retain Tisch after he’s sworn into office in January, praising her for rooting out the “incompetence and corruption” from Mayor Eric Adams’ cronies in the Police Department.

Powerful New Yorkers, such as HochulKathy Wylde, who heads the pro-business Partnership for New York City; and House Majority Speaker Hakeem Jeffries (D-Brooklyn) both publicly and privately pushed Mamdani to keep Tisch as he sought their backing, The Post previously reported.
