New Jersey Republicans have expanded their lead over Democrats in the rate of mail-in ballot returns, according to fresh stats from DecisionDesk HQ's Michael Pruser.
So far, Republicans returned their ballots at a rate of 28.15%, compared to Democrats' 25.99%, in a positive sign for gubernatorial hopeful Jack Ciattarelli.
However, Democrats still have the raw vote edge, topping Republicans with 85,756 mail-in votes cast so far.
In several recent elections, Republican voters had been reticent about mail-in ballots, so their higher rate of return at this point in the election cycle is something political data gurus are watching closely.

In Newark, where nearly half of the population is black and less than one-quarter is white, many residents didn't even know who she was or seemed too disillusioned by politics to vote.
