Nevada Gov. Lombardo pulled over for red light violation in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo was pulled over for an alleged moving violation while driving in Las Vegas two months ago.
Police body camera video from the May 15 encounter shows an officer stopping Lombardo as he's driving near the Las Vegas Strip.
"Hello, how you doing, sir?" the officer asks Lombardo, who is driving with his wife in the front passenger seat, before identifying himself.
"The reason I'm stopping you is for the-" the officer begins.
"I'm Joe Lombardo," the governor says, cutting him off.
"I'm aware -- for the red light violation back there," the officer responds. "Your right turn onto Giles here."
"C'mon, man," says Lombardo, who was the Clark County sheriff before becoming governor in 2023.
"So, you're good to go, sir," the officer says. "Appreciate ya. Have a good day."
The officer then returns to his vehicle. The entire interaction lasts less than 20 seconds. It appears the officer did not write Lombardo any citation.
Elizabeth Ray, a spokesperson for Lombardo's office, provided News 3 with the following statement about the encounter:
Two months ago, Governor Lombardo and his wife were briefly pulled over on their way to the airport by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department over a question about whether Governor Lombardo had come to a complete stop while turning. Governor Lombardo spoke with the officer, fully complied with all instructions, and was promptly on his way. He remains grateful for the professionalism of the officer involved and for the service of law enforcement officers across Nevada.
LVMPD did not comment when contacted by News 3 about the interaction.
Steve Grammas, president of the LVPPA, said the governor did not use his position to avoid receiving a citation. Officers often use their discretion to let drivers off with warnings, he said.
"This is truly a nothing car stop," he told News 3.
