In the immediate aftermath of Vance Boelter being arrested for murdering State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband and shooting State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, only one thing was clear: it would be the story of the year if the media could use it to demonize conservatives but would promptly vanish if unfolding details did not reflect well on liberals. Turns out it was the latter:

According to Minnesota’s largest newspaper, the Star-Tribune, Boelter believed he was acting under the supposed orders of Democrat Gov. Tim Walz. Boelter’s incoherent letter, about a page and a half long, bizarrely claimed that killing Sen. Amy Klobuchar was necessary to clear the way for Walz to run for the U.S. Senate.

As the letter makes obvious, Boelter is crazy as an outhouse rat. But that wouldn’t stop the media from pinning his crimes on MAGA — if only he didn’t consider himself to be acting on behalf of the quintessential Democrat, Tampon Tim Walz.

Walz appointed Boelter to a government workforce board, a fact that seemingly fueled his delusion of a personal relationship with the governor.

To the media’s immense chagrin,

There is no evidence that support for Trump or any conservative cause motivated Boelter’s actions. Instead, his violent spree was rooted in a deranged fixation on Walz, a far cry from the media’s initial narrative that sought to weaponize the tragedy against the pro-Trump right.

So the story silently sank out of sight.
