Hasan Piker Trashes Dems at College Democrat Convention

The College Democrats of America invited socialist streamer Hasan Piker to speak at its summer convention, and he promptly used their stage to attack the Democratic Party and declare that the Left no longer needs Democrats who fail his political purity test.
Piker appeared as a surprise speaker at the convention, which was co-sponsored by J Street U. He arrived dressed in a Mao-style jacket, a detail that did not go unnoticed.
Democratic gun control activist Shannon Watts was among the first to react.
Dressed like Mao and talking about how much he hates the majority of Democrats as an invited guest of @CollegeDems. Our party having a normal one. pic.twitter.com/y1QDuF7I9Q

“Dressed like Mao and talking about how much he hates the majority of Democrats as an invited guest of @CollegeDems. Our party having a normal one.”
She wasn’t wrong about the outfit or the message. Piker delivered a broadside against President Donald Trump, immigration enforcement, Israel, corporate America, and any Democrat willing to compromise.
Piker told the assembled College Democrats:
No more to Trumpism, but no more to the Democrats who compromise, who conciliate, and who betray us. No more to the fascist reactionaries, but no more to the Democrats who will collaborate and cooperate with the fascists, who will fund ICE, who will fund Israel, who will help poison the planet, who will stiff workers and help bosses.
We don’t need those Democrats anymore. In fact, I know we have a message. We are coming. We are unbossed. We’re unbought. We’re unbound, and we will become undeniable. Thank you.”
The College Democrats brought Piker to their own convention and handed him a microphone. He rewarded them by telling their members that Democrats who support Israel, fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or compromise with Republicans should be discarded.
Quite the thank-you note.
Not everyone on the left found it funny.
Jack Perenick, Chairman of the Massachusetts Young Democrats, was blunt, calling Piker “totally reprehensible” and the decision to invite him “terrible.”
So many College Dems do really great work. The Convention having letting Hasan Piker speak is a terrible decision. He is totally reprehensible and has nothing constructive to add to Democratic Party discourse. He should not have been platformed, humored, or given the time of day. https://t.co/k6kqeSCQnW

Piker’s appearance also revived scrutiny of his past statements, most notably his infamous declaration that “America deserved 9/11.” The question critics raised was simple: why would an official Democratic organization give him yet another platform?
Hello @HouseDemocrats @dscc , the @CollegeDems platformed Hasan Piker, a streamer with alleged ties to China, who said "America deserved 9/11" and promoted Hamas and Houthi terrorism.
If College Dems are official, does this represent the views of the Democratic Party apparatus?

The episode took an absurd turn when political streamer Destiny was reportedly barred from entering the convention because of Piker. Destiny and Piker are longtime rivals. The irony was hard to miss: a man who openly does not support the Democratic Party had enough influence at its official youth convention to get a critic turned away at the door.
Wow, so I just watched a video where Destiny is smugly prevented from entering the College Democrats Of America Convention because of Hasan Piker (who doesn't even support Dems).
And yet Piker had spent how much time whining about the UK revoking his travel authorization?

College Democrats could have used their convention to build the party. Instead, they handed the microphone to a self-described socialist who does not support Democrats, attacked broad sections of the Democratic coalition, and told their own members they are no longer needed.
Piker did not hijack the convention. College Democrats opened the door, built the stage, and put him behind the podium. Whatever happened next, they own it.
