With the Iran-backed Houthi terror group firing ballistic missiles at Israel, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out airstrikes against terrorist targets in Yemen on Sunday night.

“More than 50 munitions were dropped by the Israeli Air Force fighter jets on the Houthi targets, according to the military,” The Times of Israel reported. “The IDF said the strikes came in response to repeated Houthi missile and drone attacks on Israeli territory and highlighted the group’s ongoing use of civilian infrastructure for military purposes.”

Although the IDF ended Operation Rising Lion which targeted the Iranian nuclear weapons program and military infrastructure nearly two weeks ago, Tehran’s proxy terrorist group has continued firing ballistic missiles at Israel.

Israeli fighter jets struck three Houthi-controlled ports and other terrorist targets, the IDF disclosed. “Last Night [Sunday], approximately 20 fighter jets, using over 50 munitions, struck terror targets belonging to the Houthi terrorist regime in the ports of Al Hudaydah, Ras Isa, Salif, and the Ras Kanatib Power Plant,” the Israeli military said in a brief statement Monday morning.

The IDF issued a prior evacuation warning to minimize civilian casualties in the nearby coastal towns, the Israeli news website Ynetnews reported:

According to the military, the strikes targeted key terror infrastructure at the Houthi-controlled ports of Hodeidah, As-Salif and Ras Isa. Additional targets included the Ras Khatib power station and the Galaxy Leader, a ship hijacked by the Houthis in the Red Sea in 2023 and reportedly repurposed for terror activity.

Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a statement, declaring, “The same fate awaits Yemen as Tehran. Under Operation Black Flag, the IDF has powerfully struck Houthi terror targets. As I have warned, anyone who tries to harm Israel will be struck, and any hand raised against Israel will be cut off. The Houthis will continue to pay a heavy price for their actions.”

The IDF had earlier issued an urgent evacuation warning in Arabic, calling on anyone present at the targeted ports to leave the area due to impending strikes.

The strikes follow ongoing missile fire from Yemen toward Israel, despite a ceasefire with Iran in place since late June. Israeli officials had initially noted a lull in Houthi activity—believed linked to a prior assassination attempt on Houthi military chief Mohammed Abdul Karim al-Ghamari—but noted a resumption of launches in recent days.

Some 20 Israeli Air Force fighter jets participated in overnight strikes on the Houthis in Yemen, dropping over 50 munitions on several targets.

The targets included the ports of Hodeidah, Ras Isa and Salif, and the Ras Khatib power station.

One of the targets struck by the Israeli Air Force included the British-owned Galaxy Leader cargo ship that was hijacked by the Houthis in November 2023. The jihadist groups had since repurposed the vessel for maritime terrorist operations, the IDF said.

Citing military sources, The Jerusalem Post reported that the Houthis had “installed a radar system on the Galaxy Leader and use it to track ships in the Red Sea.”

Following the Hamas-led October 7 massacre, the Houthis, under the direction of their paymasters in Iran, declared war on Israel, firing hundreds of missiles and drones towards Israeli towns and cities. The terrorist group has been using Yemen’s ports in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea to hijack and attack Western-owned ships for the declared purpose of “blockading” Israel.

The Houthis have intensified their missile and drone strikes on Israel in recent months. Since the IDF renewed their military offensive against Hamas as part of Operation Gideon’s Chariots three months ago, “the Houthis in Yemen have launched 52 ballistic missiles and at least 13 drones at Israel,” The Times of Israel noted late last month.
