Child molester convicted in CA apprehended in AZ - KTAR.com
A convicted child molester was apprehended in Scottsdale on Saturday without incident after he spent 10 months as a California fugitive.
Carl Cacconie was convicted by an El Dorado jury in July 2025 of six counts of committing lewd acts upon a child under the age of 14, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
His sentencing was scheduled for August 25, 2025, about five weeks later. An El Dorado District Attorney’s request to have Cacconie in custody in the meantime was denied, and he was instead released on $1 million bail as he gave up his passport and wore a monitoring device.
The monitoring device stopped transmitting eight days ahead of the sentencing, and the last time he was seen in the San Francisco area was three days prior.
On sentencing day, Cacconie’s family told courts that he was reported missing and had left behind a suicide note, wallet and phone.
A federal warrant was issued for Cacconie on May 14, leading to a joint investigation where he was located in Scottsdale around 9 a.m.
The FBI Phoenix Desert Hawk Fugitive Task Force that apprehended him was made up of FBI special agents, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies and agents with the U.S. Border Patrol.
“We never stopped fighting for justice in this case,” El Dorado County District Attorney Vern Pierson said in a release. “While nothing can erase the harm caused, we hope today’s outcome offers a measure of peace to Cacconie’s survivor and family, knowing that he will finally be held accountable and sentenced for his crimes.”
The new sentencing will occur after Cacconie’s extradition back to California.
