Justin Baldoni breaks silence on Blake Lively legal drama

Justin Baldoni has broken his silence on his two-year legal battle with Blake Lively following the pair's settlement.

The actor and director posted a video to Instagram on Wednesday, July 8, alongside his wife, Emily Baldoni, describing the dispute as a source of injustice and pain for their family. Neither named Blake directly in the video.

In the nearly five-minute video, Justin said he and Emily had stayed quiet for most of the past two years, not for lack of things to say but because it never felt like the right moment. He said too many "painful things" had been "spoken into existence," and that the couple did not want to add to the noise while the case moved through the courts. "Gratitude has saved us," he said, crediting the couple's faith and thanking those who, in his words, "had discernment" and stood by them.

Emily described the ordeal as a source of trauma the family was still working through, and said she struggled to understand how it had happened, calling it something "disguised as a fight for women." The couple, who married in 2013 and share two children, said they were focused on healing, which Justin noted "isn't linear."

"We are healing," Emily said. "If you’ve ever been through something traumatic, you know that healing isn’t linear. It looks different every day. We have had to rethink for ourselves what is real, and what matters. It’s this. It’s our family, it’s our friends, it’s our community, who have been there for us, it’s our faith."

The legal dispute began in December 2024, when Blake filed a complaint accusing Justin of sexual harassment during the filming of It Ends with Us and of orchestrating a campaign to damage her reputation. Tensions between the costars had first surfaced during the film's August 2024 press tour. The movie, which Justin directed and starred in opposite Blake, was adapted from Colleen Hoover's novel and became a box-office hit.

Justin denied the allegations and, with his company Wayfarer Studios, countersued Blake and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, for $400 million, accusing her of weaponizing false claims. A judge dismissed that countersuit, ruling that Blake's statements were protected by litigation privilege.

The fight played out publicly for more than a year, with both sides releasing text messages, behind-the-scenes footage and court filings. The two sides reached a settlement in May, weeks before the case was due to go to trial. The agreement was confidential, and neither party admitted wrongdoing or paid damages to the other.

Blake, who had maintained her allegations throughout, is now seeking about $8 million in legal fees from Justin and Wayfarer, a request the actor is contesting. He faces a court deadline next week to respond.

Justin said there was more he wanted to say and that the time for it would come. For now, he said, the couple wants to focus on their family and their recovery. The fee dispute remains before the court.

"We don’t even know if this is the right thing to say," Justin said. "We just know we need to share something. What I will say is that there have been so many painful things that have been spoken into existence over the last couple of years. That created so much noise, and we didn’t want to add to the noise. So we just wanted to let the justice system run its course."
