Trump touts $100B investment from Taiwan semiconductor company

President Donald Trump on Friday touted a pledged $100 billion investment from a major Taiwanese manufacturing company into Arizona, portraying it as part of an effort to reverse decades of offshoring.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is a leading manufacturer of critical components in modern technology, namely semiconductor chips. The company has previously pledged billions in American investment, but Trump's announcement on Friday adds to the total.
"For decades, horrible politicians allowed our Industrial Base to move overseas. Their Trade Policies encouraged Companies to find the cheapest Labor, and build the Products we invented across Asia," he posted on Truth Social. "When I took Office, we didn’t build Leading Edge Semiconductor Chips here in America. American Trade Policy was broken and, the results, disastrous.
"Now, TSMC, the largest Leading Edge Semiconductor Chip Manufacturer in the World, has announced an additional 100 Billion Dollar Investment in their Semiconductor Fabrication Factories in Arizona," Trump went on. "That brings their total commitment to build Chips in America to a record 265 Billion Dollars."
Trump further suggested that the investment pledge was an indicator of the success of his economic policies on global trade.
