Trump congratulates Espriella on presidential win in Colombia

President Donald Trump on Monday congratulated Abelardo de la Espriella on his win in the Colombian presidential election.
The right-wing lawyer campaigned on a platform of military action against drug cartels and the establishment of mega-prisons in the style of El Salvador. He received the endorsement of Trump and other right-wing figures abroad.
"Congratulations to “El Tigre” (THE TIGER!) Abelardo de la Espriella, the new President of Colombia! It was my Great Honor to endorse him, and I look forward to working together to build a powerful relationship between Colombia and the United States of America, which will bring new levels of Greatness for both of our Countries!" Trump posted on Truth Social.
Espriella's win marks the latest triumph of right-wing candidates in Latin America in recent months. Right-wing candidates have triumphed in Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Honduras, Ecuador, and other nations since Trump returned to the White House.
Many have cited the policies of El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele, whose roundup and imprisonment of gang members has led to a substantial drop in crime.
