Senate overwhelmingly advances bipartisan housing bill

The Senate overwhelmingly advanced a bipartisan housing bill on Thursday, moving the package one step closer to President Donald Trump's desk.
The upper chamber voted 84-8 in favor of advancing the bill, suggesting it will easily pass on the final vote. The House approved the package by a similarly overwhelming, 396-13 margin in May.
That vote followed the Senate voting 89-10 in favor of an earlier version. The House variant primarily included incentives to build multi-family homes like duplexes.
The timeline for final passage remains unclear.
