GOP leads Dems on crime, economy, immigration: poll

Republicans lead Democrats on the economy, immigration, and crime heading into the 2026 midterms, according to a Washington Post/Ipsos survey.
"At this particular point, the Democrats are the New Orleans Saints of political parties," quipped CNN's Harry Enten. "The ball may be on the ground, but the Democrats have not picked up the ball."
On the economy, Republicans enjoyed a 7-point edge in voter trust over the Democrats. On immigration, the figure was 13 points in favor of the GOP. On crime, it was 22 points.
In 2022, Republicans held a 12-point edge on the economy, but a mere 3-point lead on immigration and a 13-point lead on crime.
"Look at this! The Republican lead's [on immigration] actually gone up by 10 points. What are you doing Democrats?!" asked Enten. "My goodness gracious!"
