The Trump administration will soon request $80 billion funding for the Iran war, Politico reported, citing "five people familiar with the matter."

Administration officials reportedly told Republicans on Capitol Hill that the request would come this week. The news comes as Trump increasingly pressures the Senate to change its rules to pass key legislation.

Trump on Wednesday canceled a planned signing ceremony for a bipartisan housing bill, saying he wouldn't approve the legislation until Congress passed the SAVE America Act, a marquis voter ID bill.

He later attended a lunch with Senate Republicans, during which he got into an argument with Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., over the Iran war. Cassidy previously voted with Democrats on a war powers resolution that would have forced Trump to break off the conflict.

Polling data has shown the public prefers a swift end to the conflict, rather than a protracted war for greater concessions, even as they doubt the merits of the proposed deal.
