Apple to invest $500B in U.S. manufacturing, innovation after recent meeting between CEO Cook, Trump

Tech giant Apple on Monday committed $500 billion to the U.S. economy, a move that will reportedly create 

In addition, Apple CEO Tim Cook plans to shift manufacturing from Mexico to the U.S., a move that the iPhone maker hasn't publicly discussed, according to Bloomberg News. 

The multi-billion dollar commitment follows a recent meeting between Cook and Trump that reportedly includied discussions about the president's recent tariffs on goods coming from Mexico to the U.S. 

Cook also contributed $1 million to Trump's inauguration committee. 

The  commitment will continue for five years and will construct an artificial intelligence server manufacturing factory in Texas and increase the company's Advanced Manufacturing Fund from $5 billion to $10 billion.

"This new pledge builds on Apple's long history of investing in American innovation and advanced high-skilled manufacturing, and will support a wide range of initiatives that focus on artificial intelligence, silicon engineering, and skills development for students and workers across the country," Apple said in a statement.

Facilities are also expected to expand in Arizona, California, Iowa, North Carolina and the state of Washington. 

Cook said that he was proud of this investment and support for manufacturing in the U.S.

"From doubling our Advanced Manufacturing Fund, to building advanced technology in Texas, we’re thrilled to expand our support for American manufacturing," Cook said, according to Fox News.

Trump thanked Apple for the investment on TRUTH Social.

"APPLE HAS JUST ANNOUNCED A RECORD 500 BILLION DOLLAR INVESTMENT IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. THE REASON, FAITH IN WHAT WE ARE DOING, WITHOUT WHICH, THEY WOULD’NT BE INVESTING TEN CENTS. THANK YOU TIM COOK AND APPLE!!!" the post reads.
