On night of global significance, AOC talks ... impeachment

President Donald Trump's massive strike against Iran's nuclear facilities was a world-shaping moment, but New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez decided to use the events Saturday night to call for impeachment.
In a post on X, the progressive lawmaker argued that the strike "impulsively risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations," labeling it "absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment."
Her remarks come amid heightened tensions following U.S. military action against Iranian nuclear sites. Ocasio-Cortez's statement drew sharp rebukes from some conservative commentators, who defended the president's authority under existing legislation like the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force.
The controversy has reignited debates over the balance of war powers between the executive and legislative branches. Legal experts are divided on whether the president’s actions fall within his constitutional authority as commander-in-chief. The debate has prompted calls for Congress to assert greater oversight over military engagements.
During his first term, Trump was impeached twice by the House of Representatives, first in 2019 for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress over his dealings with Ukraine, and again in 2021 for incitement of insurrection following the January 6 Capitol riot. Both times, the Senate acquitted him, allowing him to complete his term.
