Witkoff: Iran will invite UN to inspect nuclear sites: AP

Trump special envoy Steve Witkoff reportedly told lawmakers on Thursday that Iran would soon invite United Nations nuclear inspectors to review its operations and assist with the unearthing of nuclear material buried by U.S. strikes.

The Associated Press reported on the conversations, citing "two people familiar with the conversation." The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is responsible for UN oversight of nuclear activities.

The development comes as the U.S. and Iran signed a 14-point Memorandum of Understanding to end the Iran war, which began in late February. The terms of the deal have drawn scrutiny from Republican lawmakers and Israeli officials, with the latter suggesting it may not honor the ceasefire terms in Lebanon.

But the invitation of UN inspectors would represent a considerable win for the Trump administration, which waged the conflict with the aim of preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. The MOU includes a provision that commits Iran to not pursuing one.
