Robert Redford, a Hollywood icon for decades, has died.

He was 89.

The Oscar-winning director died at his home in Utah, Fox News reported.

He was for acting in films such as “The Sting,” “All the President’s Men” and “The Way We Were.”

His death was announced in a statement by Cindi Berger, the chief executive of the publicity firm Rogers & Cowan PMK.

According to Berger, Redford died in his sleep. He was in “the place he loved surrounded by those he loved,” her statement said, per the New York Times.

“Redford has never been so radiantly glamorous,” the critic Pauline Kael wrote in The New Yorker, “as when we saw him through Barbra Streisand’s infatuated eyes.”

In addition to acting and directing, he founded the Sundance Institute, and later the Sundance Film Festival. The institute was a nonprofit “dedicated to cultivating fresh cinematic voices,” the NYT reported.
