Ukraine launched one of its largest drone attacks on Moscow since Russia’s full-scale invasion began, striking a major oil Refinery and disrupting life across the Russian capital.
According to Fox News, Russian officials said the overnight assault targeted the Moscow Oil Refinery in the Kapotnya district, a key fuel facility that serves the capital region. The strike marked the second reported attack on the Refinery in just three days.
Videos shared online showed large flames and thick black smoke rising above the Refinery as emergency crews responded. Russian authorities said air defense systems intercepted waves of incoming drones, though several still reached targets around the city.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said more than 130 drones heading toward the capital were shot down. Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed more than 550 Ukrainian drones were intercepted across multiple regions overnight, although those figures could not be independently verified.
The attack temporarily halted flights at several Moscow airports and led to traffic restrictions near the Refinery. Officials also reported that debris damaged a building near the Sadovod shopping center, while the governor of the Moscow region said 16 people were injured during the broader assault.
Residents described scenes of panic as explosions echoed across the city.
“This is pure hell, I’ve never felt such terror,” one Moscow resident told East2West News.

Another resident asked, “Why won’t this madman stop his crazy and pointless war and end the death and destruction?”
East2West also reported heightened security around the Kremlin following the attack. Red Square was closed, and armed personnel were deployed around key government sites, including Vladimir Lenin’s Mausoleum.
Ukraine has increasingly used long-range drones to strike military and energy infrastructure inside Russia. Kyiv argues those operations are intended to weaken Russia’s ability to sustain the war and raise the cost of continued aggression.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reacted to the strike with a message on X directed at Moscow residents.
“One of the most popular questions asked by Muscovites this morning is ‘What is going on?’” Sybiha wrote. “Your country started a war of aggression against ours. For years, it has been killing our people. Now that you know what’s going on, ask Putin when he is planning to end it.”
The Refinery is considered a strategically important target. According to East2West, it supplies about 40% of Moscow’s fuel market and roughly 70% of the surrounding region’s gasoline and aviation fuel.
The attack came as President Vladimir Putin hosted leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Kazan. At the same time, Russia continued launching strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities, while Ukrainian officials said isolating occupied Crimea remains a key military objective as the conflict continues.
