A lifelong Democrat and former Clinton administration official is warning his party that the growing influence of Democratic socialists could threaten the future of the Democratic Party.
According to Fox News, Jamie Metzl, speaking Tuesday on "Fox & Friends," urged House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and other Democratic leaders to take a stronger stance against the Democratic Socialists of America, or DSA.
"The DSA is a radical extremist movement trying to take over the Democratic Party," Metzl said.
He accused the group of promoting policies he described as extreme and warned that Democrats risk damaging their own party if they fail to confront those factions.
"So, unless the Democratic Party takes on these dangerous, extremist radicals in a very clear and unequivocal way now, we will destroy our own party," Metzl said. "And that's not good for the Democrats, and it's not for America."
Metzl argued that Democrats are facing an internal power struggle between more moderate members and candidates aligned with democratic socialism.
He called on Jeffries to take a clear position rather than attempting to appeal to both sides.

"Hakeem Jeffries is trying to strike a balance between being a little bit critical and being supportive," Metzl said, suggesting that Democratic leaders may be reluctant to alienate voters associated with the movement as the party works to regain control of the House.
Metzl warned that winning a House majority with the backing of what he considers extremist groups could make it harder for Democrats to govern.
"Now is the time for the Democrats to say, 'Here's who we are, and here's what we stand for,'" he said. "And the future of the Democratic Party is not accommodating dangerous extremist radicals who are against American democracy."
His comments come as a number of democratic socialist candidates have scored major victories in Democratic primaries in recent weeks.
In Colorado, Melat Kiros, a DSA-backed candidate, defeated longtime Democratic Rep. Diana DeGette in Denver's heavily Democratic district.
In New York, several candidates backed by New York City's democratic socialist mayor, Zohran Mamdani, also won their elections. Among them were Darializa Avila Chevalier, who defeated Rep. Adriano Espaillat, and Brad Lander, who defeated Rep. Dan Goldman.
