Are You Ready for the Tough on Crime Democrats?

The two political parties have major divides on a bunch of issues but few more so than crime. Over the past couple months, President Trump has pushed to send ICE, the FBI and the National Guard into major US cities as a way to attack the crime problem.

He started in Washington, DC which has a very serious crime problem and the response from Democrats, almost universally, was leave DC alone, crime is down. In any case, Trump's anti-crime surge worked spectacularly which is why you've probably heard almost nothing about it in the media.
And yet, when he tried to repeat that in Chicago and other blue cities, the Democratic governors sued to stop him and the Democratic mayors said repeatedly that there was no need for help.
That dynamic is probably why the American people don't trust Democrats on crime because they know that Democrats would rather see their own voters die than admit there is a problem. Here's Harry Enten going through the numbers.
🚨NEW: CNN's Harry Enten spells out GOP *ADVANTAGES* in midterms🚨
"Who leads on the economy? Republicans by 7! Immigration? Republicans by 13! How about crime? A big issue for Donald Trump and the Republicans. Look at that: lead by 22 points!"

Democrats don't seem to have a plan but they do realize they need to do something because these are bad numbers. On crime, they are suddenly claiming to be the pro-police party. This Axios report is from last week:

From New Jersey to New Mexico, Democrats are calling for more police officers, tougher bail guidelines for repeat offenders, fewer early releases from jails and prisons, and more patrols in targeted areas...
In April, New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham ordered the National Guard to Albuquerque — one of the nation's most violent cities — to help police with crime months before Trump sent troops to Washington, D.C.
Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker, whose tough-on-crime approach was credited with helping her defeat more progressive rivals in 2023, has touted her policies as a key factor in the city's steep drop in homicides...
"Democrats need to get their head(s) out of their asses when it comes to this issue," Sam Bregman, a district attorney and a Democratic candidate for New Mexico governor in 2026, told Axios.
And today a gun control group is touting the results of a push-poll which found Democrats would reverse their losses on crime by talking more about gun control efforts.
Voters also reported preferring Republicans to Democrats with preventing and reducing crime and cracking down on violent crime — gaps that grew among swing voters.
But, in a hint of hope for the party looking to neutralize a weakness President Donald Trump will exploit next year, those voters swung toward Democrats in all four categories after hearing messaging acknowledging crime is a problem and showing steps the party has taken to increase safety. Specifically, pollsters cited cracking down on gun trafficking and strengthening firearm background checks.

Would this work? Maybe it will. I sort of think any sign that Democrats are doing anything at all would help them on this issue, even if it's mostly just talk. But I don't believe it will erase all of the GOP advantage, no matter what his poll says.
What voters have seen is that Democrats spent a couple years badmouthing the police and trying to defund them. The result was a nationwide disaster in terms of soaring violent crime. Most of those defunding efforts were quickly reversed and now crime is drifting down again but Dems still support progressive DAs who let criminals out too easily and who refuse to do much of anything about juvenile crime.
Meanwhile, Trump is literally pushing to send in the troops. He's shown in one city that this can work, though again the national media studiously avoids mentioning that.
Wouldn't it be nice if Chicago could get through a single weekend without a murder? Most people, including nearly all Democrats, would say yes, but not Gov. Pritzker or Mayor Johnson. They are digging in their heels and doing everything they can to deny Trump a win.
Speaking at a news conference on the West Side in which he signed an executive order he said would deter U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Johnson told Chicagoans to stand together against the White House’s mounting threats of a military occupation, which he dubbed “the war on Chicago.”...
“In the coming days and weeks, we may be pushed, if not forced, to take even more dramatic action if this administration continues to escalate and provoke our people,” Johnson told reporters. Pressed to elaborate, he said, “Everything. Everything, whatever is necessary to ensure that we’re protecting people.”

Democrats would rather see the murders continue than admit they were wrong. Americans are smart not to trust them on this issue, no matter how tough they talk.
Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
