Embracing Mao Now

One of the left's superpowers is that they are so evil that many people simply can't conceive of it.

People hear the emotion-laden words leftists use, such as "kindness" and "compassion," and take them at face value without looking at what they are attached to, so when you try to explain the policies and preferences behind them, nobody believes that any sane person holds them.

I saw this first in education debates here in Minnesota. Legislators would be debating new education standards and a Republican would stand up to explain what was actually in the bill—promoted as "improving educational outcomes"—and everybody would shout them down as a conspiracy theorist.

But sure enough, some provision or another in the bill promoted the most bizarre stuff, or eliminated requirements everybody assumed were in there, or pushed gender ideology. The state would fund a website connecting gay kids to gay adults, or distribute books promoting sex apps and hooking up, but the average parent would dismiss the concerns as too outrageous to be true.

With the current wave of "Democratic Socialist" candidates rising fast, we are seeing the same cycle again. Radical communists are running for office, campaigning with radicals and people who promote terrorism, or even have terrorist ties themselves, but Pravda and the liberals pretend like it is perfectly normal, and anybody who warns about it is engaged in McCarthyism.

The thing is...they ARE communists. They really DO support Hamas and other terrorists. They do believe in political violence. Candidates are campaigning with Hasan Piker, and the College Democrats give him standing ovations as he rants like a communist dictator while wearing a Mao outfit.

Piker doesn't even deny that his hero Mao killed off a few tens of millions of people. They are just the eggs that needed to be broken to make the great communist omelet, you see. Those forced abortions and sterilizations? We must all sacrifice for the greater good.

Left-leaning Democrats proudly talk about a "Big Tent," but at least some of them are scared that if they don't get into line, they will be tossed out of the party or even physically threatened. Representative Adam Smith, a center-left Democrat, admitted that he voted to defund Israel's Iron Dome at least partly because he and his family were physically threatened.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Adam Smith says the antizionist left has turned Israel into a proxy for its war on America, the West, and capitalism, while giving anti-Jewish bigots a place in progressive politics.

Smith, who represents Washington state and serves as ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, said anti-Israel activists have bullied their way into Democratic institutions since October 7 and targeted him and his family with criminal activity.

Democrats own much of the extremism, since they cultivated it for decades by demonizing anybody they disagree with and by filling our educational institutions with extreme leftists, with the hope of building a durable majority of zealous voters who are economically ignorant and filled with anti-liberal zeal.

While a few Democrats, like Bill Maher and Van Jones, are breaking the taboo of criticizing the radical leftists, overall the party is terrified of their creation. First, because they now present a danger to their political future, and second because many leftists really do long for blood. Many, like Hakeem Jeffries, believe that the smart play is to lean into the "zeal," which is why violent rhetoric from Democrats has become common, including talk of civil war.

Democrats have been flocking to be seen with Piker, appearing on Jennifer Welch's podcast, and are hoping to ride the wave of rage into power, at least in the short term. Many know that in the longer term, if this goes on, they are doomed to be driven out either by the voters in swing districts or by radicals in Democrat-dominated districts.

NEW: Liberal podcaster Jennifer Welch suggests the Dem establishment needs to get on board with wanting conservatives dead or else far-leftists will come “after you in the same way that we come after MAGA.”

Welch: *Plays video of protester celebrating Kirk's murder."

Welch: "Listen up, Democratic establishment. You can either jump on board with this, or we're coming after you in the same way that we come after MAGA. Period."

More than one person has noticed the parallel between today's political moment and the Cultural Revolution under Mao, in which millions of young, brainwashed students terrorized the country. College campuses have become asylums run by the inmates, only the asylums are funded to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars.

Sounds like Adam Smith's anti-Israel vote last night was cast under duress.

Smith: "I am deeply concerned about the tactics used by those on the far left to advocate cutting off aid to Israel. To date, my family and I have had our home vandalized, a fire has been set in my driveway, my neighbors' lives have been disrupted in the middle of the night, town halls meant to be forums for dialogue have been shut down, and a staff member has been physically assaulted."

Democrats clearly are unwilling to fight back hard, even if they complain to each other in private about the direction of their party. John Fetterman has essentially been excommunicated from his party, and Van Jones is bragging about how many Democrats called to thank him for saying out loud what they refuse to.

Van Jones says his phone has been “blowing up all day” after he publicly called out the socialist takeover of the Democrat Party.

Jones says governors and senators from both parties have been calling to thank him for saying what many Democrats have only been willing to say behind closed doors.

JONES: “This phone has been blowing up all day.”

“Governors from both parties, Senators from both parties, Democrats in the House calling, thanking me for saying what everybody’s been saying behind the scenes.”

“Which is that this stuff is going too far.”

“I am a progressive Democrat. You want to talk about prison reform? I’ve done it as well as anybody.”

“I’ve done prison reform. I never said have no prisons. Where are you going to put the Klan?”

“I’ve done police reform. I never said no police. Where are you going to put the pedophiles? Who’s going to grab the pedophiles?”

“This stuff is going too far!”

“I am happy that the young people are fighting for affordability, Medicare for All, all the good things I’ve been waiting my whole life to see a youth movement do what it’s doing, but it’s being hijacked by people who are putting in nutty ideas...supporting terrorists, saying we don’t need cops and prisons.”

“We can’t deport anybody, even if they rape somebody…”

That's all well and good, except that when push comes to shove, Democrats in office are implementing the very policies that Jones is pointing out are extreme.

When Tim Walz pardoned a child rapist in an attempt to prevent his deportation, Democrats didn't erupt in anger at him. They applauded him. Abigail Spanberger, a self-described "moderate," works mightily to keep every rapist and child molester in the United States.

The radicals are winning, and a couple of Democratic Party outsiders complaining about it won't move the needle.

The Maoists are inside that "big tent," and the Democrats are catering to them.
