Trump Accuses Schumer of Acting Out of Partisan Interests and Fueling a Democratic Rebellion

President Donald Trump lashed out at Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, accusing him of hypocrisy and of acting in the interests of his party rather than the American people.

“Schumer proclaimed this morning that every day gets better for them. No, every day is actually getting worse,” Trump said, noting that within the Democratic Party “they’re having a rebellion because they want to stop him.”

The president recalled that Schumer himself had repeatedly criticized the idea of a government shutdown. “I watched last night, like ten different times over the years, he said you can’t shut down the government. And now, he’s the one who shut it down,” Trump stated.

According to Trump, this change of stance amounts to a “confession” that Schumer “acts not to serve the people, but to serve the partisan interests of his party.” Trump concluded by asserting that this strategy has not benefited the Democrats and has exposed their internal division.
