President Donald Trump has announced the nomination of Bernie Navarro as the next United States ambassador to the Republic of Peru, highlighting his background in real estate finance and his commitment to economic recovery.

This designation, revealed through the president’s Truth Social platform, emphasizes Navarro’s experience in trade, education, and bilateral relations, positioning him as a staunch defender of American interests in the Andean region.

Navarro, founder and president of Benworth Capital Partners, a private capital firm specialized in mortgage financing, has been a close ally of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, underscoring the conservative alignment of this choice.

Navarro, of Cuban-American origin, comes from a family that fled communism in Cuba, which has shaped his strongly anti-leftist political vision.

His parents, Gilberto and Norma, lost everything under Castro’s regime, instilling in him values of freedom and opportunity that he now brings to his diplomatic role.

With a degree in International Finance from the University of Miami and a graduate degree in Government from Harvard, Navarro has led trade missions to Peru, collaborating with the U.S. Department of Commerce to boost business in South Florida during the Great Recession.

Navarro’s nomination comes at a critical moment for U.S.-Peru relations, where China has increased its influence through investments in infrastructure, mining, and energy, representing a strategic threat to Western interests.

In his statement before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on November 19, 2025, Navarro emphasized his determination to counter this expansion, citing his experience in eliminating a Confucius Institute at Miami Dade College, the largest educational institution in the U.S., where he served as chairman of the Board of Trustees.

The Senate confirmed Navarro on December 18, 2025, with a favorable vote, introduced by his friend Senator Rick Scott of Florida, and presided over by Senator Ashley Moody.

This swift approval reflects bipartisan support for nominees who prioritize economic security and the fight against authoritarian influences. Navarro, married to Claudia, a Peruvian-American, and father of three children, views this position as the honor of his lifetime, as he expressed on his official Instagram account.

This nomination strengthens the America First agenda, prioritizing prosperity and security in the face of global leftist threats.
