The National Police has arrested in Alicante a woman of Algerian origin, aged 27, accused of deliberately applying an irritating liquid to the eyes of her barely two-year-old son over several months, causing him severe vision damage that required prolonged hospitalization.
🇪🇸 In Spain, a 27-year-old Algerian woman has been arrested for attempting to blind her two-year-old son by repeatedly pouring an irritating liquid into his eyes over several months.
She also has a seven-year-old daughter who is blind.

The minor, who was admitted to the Alicante General Hospital on multiple occasions since August 2025, initially presented symptoms suggesting possible temporary blindness, although his condition improved after medical treatment and separation from his mother.
Medical staff, upon detecting irregularities in the eye injuries, activated the child protection protocol and alerted the court, triggering a thorough investigation that culminated in the arrest of the suspect.
The family, from Algeria, arrived in Spain with the children under suspicious medical circumstances. The detainee also has a seven-year-old daughter who is already blind, and investigators are examining whether this blindness was caused by similar actions in the country of origin, before their arrival in Spanish territory.
Police sources indicate that the girl presented comparable eye problems to those of her younger brother upon entering Spain, which has expanded the scope of the investigation to determine if it is a deliberate pattern.
Currently, the two-year-old boy is under the guardianship of the public administration, ensuring his safety and recovery, while the mother faces charges for serious injuries.
Among the hypotheses considered by the National Police is the possibility that the woman suffered from a mental disorder, similar to Munchausen syndrome by proxy, in which a caregiver fabricates or induces illnesses in dependents to obtain attention or benefits.
However, other lines of investigation point to an economic motive: the desire to access greater social subsidies for disability, an abuse that highlights how Spain’s generous welfare system, driven by progressive policies that prioritize inclusion without sufficient controls, can be exploited by unscrupulous individuals.
This case highlights the risks of an expansive welfare state, funded by Spanish taxpayers, that attracts irregular immigrants seeking social benefits, without adequately verifying their backgrounds or intentions.
Criminology experts have noted in similar cases that such acts thrive in environments where verifications are lax, allowing resources intended for the most vulnerable to end up in the wrong hands.
The arrest took place on November 8, 2025, and since then, the court has ordered precautionary measures to protect the minors involved.
A reform is urgently needed that prioritizes national sovereignty —both in Spain and in various parts of the world— as well as strict controls to prevent such tragedies, instead of the open policies promoted by the left that dilute individual responsibility and overburden the public treasury.
