Cowardly attack in Bogotá! Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay fights for his life after critical surgery: Is the Radical Left behind the plot? - Gateway Hispanic

Senator and presidential pre-candidate for the Centro Democrático, Miguel Uribe Turbay, aged 39, is clinging to life at the Fundación Santa Fe in Bogotá following an emergency surgery on June 16. His condition is described as “extremely critical”, with persistent brain edema and uncontrollable intracranial bleeding.
The attack on June 7, carried out by a teenage hitman during a rally in the Modelia neighborhood, has unleashed a wave of outrage in Colombia and cast a spotlight on the radical left, whose inflammatory rhetoric seems to fuel such violence.
The assault took place while Uribe Turbay was delivering a speech in Fontibón. A 15-year-old, with chilling precision, shot him in the head and leg. After weeks in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a glimmer of hope on June 13, with a slight reduction in intracranial pressure, was shattered when new bleeding necessitated another surgery.
The medical report, signed by Dr. Adolfo Llinás Volpe, is grim: the neurological prognosis remains uncertain.
Colombia is reeling. Hundreds of citizens have gathered outside the hospital, lighting candles and praying. A massive Eucharist on June 16 reflected the nation’s outcry. Julio César Turbay, the senator’s uncle, stated: “We’re praying for a miracle for Miguel.”
On social media, #FuerzaMiguel is trending, with messages like: “Colombia won’t bow to violence.” Yet, not everyone shares the grief: certain progressive sectors, with their usual cynicism, downplay the attack or deflect blame.
The investigation reveals a disturbing backdrop. The arrest of Katherine Martínez, alias “Gabriela,” in Caquetá points to a planned criminal network with possible political motives. Martínez, linked to a man named Carlos Eduardo Mora, allegedly coordinated the attack.
The detained minor confessed: “I was paid to do it.” Authorities are offering 3 billion pesos for information, but the mastermind remains at large. Who stands to gain from silencing Uribe Turbay, a staunch critic of drug trafficking and corruption?
Meanwhile, the left, led by Gustavo Petro, washes its hands of the matter. Petro, with characteristic callousness, suggested that Uribe’s survival “defies science.” What comfort for a shattered family!
Progressives, ever eager to wave the “total peace” flag, fall silent when violence strikes their opponents. Isn’t it ironic that their talk of “love and reconciliation” vanishes when the victim is a conservative?
María Claudia Tarazona, Uribe’s wife, has moved the nation. On Father’s Day, she wrote: “It’s a heart-wrenching day, but we keep fighting.”
With a four-year-old son and three daughters, the family is reliving the trauma of 1991, when Uribe’s mother was murdered by Pablo Escobar’s mafia. Colombia cannot afford another chapter of bloodshed.
The “March of Silence” on June 15, with thousands in 30 cities, demanded justice. Yet, predictably, figures like Gustavo Bolívar accused protesters of “politicizing” the tragedy. The audacity!
While progressives point fingers, insecurity soars under their government.
This attack is not just personal—it’s a challenge to democracy. Uribe Turbay, a symbol of resistance against chaos, embodies what the radical left despises: order, principles, and courage.
If he falls, it will be a victory for the violent and a defeat for Colombia.
