A violent gang member is facing life in prison after sexually assaulting a young girl.

Hugo Bellamy, a 32-year-old from McKinney, was sentenced to life in prison on September 11 after sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl, a spokesman for the Collin County District Attorney’s Office told The Dallas Express.

Bellamy committed the abuse just months after getting out of prison on parole.

“Protecting children is the highest duty of my office,” said District Attorney Greg Willis in a release. “This life sentence ensures that a violent gang member who preyed on a child will never be free to harm another innocent victim.”

Judge Jennifer Edgeworth of the 219th District Court sentenced Bellamy to life, according to the release.

The Crime

Bellamy allegedly sexually abused the young girl around November 2023, and the Collin County Sheriff’s Office arrested him nearly a year later, according to court records. The spokesman said Bellamy was a relative of the victim’s family, and the abuse took place inside their home.

The crime only came to light when the girl told her mother. Then, she went to the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County.

“There are police officers over there, forensic interviewers, and support services and counselors,” the spokesman said. “So she went there, detectives went to work, then made the case pretty quickly and made the arrest.”

Detective Dane Billington with the McKinney Police Department led the investigation, according to the release.

Bellamy was booked into the Collin County Jail in November 2024, according to jail records. He was held on two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, one count of indecency with a child by sexual contact, a parole violation, and a federal detainer for the U.S. Marshal’s Service.

A Collin County jury found him guilty of the three child sex abuse charges on September 10, according to court documents. The judge sentenced him to life on September 11.

A Violent History

Bellamy was convicted of robbery in May 2012 and sentenced to three years in prison, according to the spokesman. Then, he was convicted again of aggravated robbery in May 2016 and sentenced to 15 years. Both priors were reportedly from Tarrant County.

“He evidently made parole,” the spokesman said.

Within several months of being released on parole, he sexually abused the young girl multiple times.

Bellamy was a member of the Arlington-based “Certified Sliders B*tch” gang, the spokesman said. According to jail records, he also went by “Lil-Mid.”

“It’s kind of a neighborhood-based gang,” the spokesman said. “Drug dealing, all the violence that goes with drug dealing.”
