How Many Starbucks is Dallas Losing?

Starbucks appears to be closing 20 stores in Texas, including three in Dallas, as part of the coffee chain’s restructuring plans.

Last week, The Dallas Express reported that the coffee behemoth plans to shutter more than 100 stores across North America and lay off around 900 people as part of a $1 billion cost-saving initiative. Starbucks announced its intention to close approximately 1% of its company-operated stores in the United States and Canada by the end of 2025, with multiple locations in North Texas seemingly among those affected by the move.

One estimate from the Austin American-Statesman, based on an informal assessment of social media posts from Starbucks employees, indicates that three closures are occurring in Dallas. The Dallas Business Journal is reporting that two locations in the city are no longer listing open hours as of this past weekend.

As of the morning of September 29, the Dallas location at 6123 Greenville Ave. is listed as permanently closed on Google. While the other location, reported as closed by DBJ at 5331 E Mockingburd Ln, still lists operating hours on Google, the publication states that a letter was posted in the store’s window confirming the closure.

A spokesperson for Starbucks, Sam Jefferies, said the coffee chain will post signage at impacted stores and notify customers of closures via email.

A September 25 blog post from the Chairman and CEO of Starbucks, Brian Nicco, stated that a review of its stores found some were not meeting the brand’s expectations.

“During the review, we identified coffeehouses where we’re unable to create the physical environment our customers and partners expect, or where we don’t see a path to financial performance, and these locations will be closed,” he wrote.
