President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he did not know about the Securing Agriculture’s Workforce Act of 2026 that Republicans recently introduced in Congress, but he would “take a look at it.”

The Daily Caller’s White House Correspondent, Reagan Reese, asked Trump about the bill in a press conference. It would allow illegal immigrants who entered and remain in the country unlawfully to apply for an agricultural worker visa as long as they can prove they worked in agricultural or related industries for a minimum period of six months.

“There’s a bill right now that’s being considered that would allow illegal aliens who are working in farming to get legal status,” Reese said. “Do you support that legislation?”

48 Republicans and a few Democrats introduced the bill, H.R. 9535, to the House Committee on the Judiciary on June 30.

Illegal immigrants would have to prove they have worked as agricultural laborers for at least six months in the last two years, starting May 31. The legislation would waive grounds for blocking entry or deporting illegal immigrants who meet the criteria.

The legislation would also cap wage increases for all farm workers, illegal immigrant and citizen, at 3.25 percent annually, while not allowing it to be reduced more than 1.5 percent annually. This cap is called an Adverse Effect Wage Rate (AEWA).

Critics have argued that the bill would protect multimillion- and multibillion-dollar agricultural corporations, including the farming and meat packing industries.
